Certification Decision Tool

Is this certification relevant to your route?

Five answers, one call. Everything below is composed from records TechWaymark already holds: the vendor page someone read, TechWaymark's certification intelligence, the public market verdict and the recorded ruling for your target role. There is no score and no ranking.

Free, no account, and nothing you choose here leaves your browser.

A learner can work through this without giving any personal detail. Every input is a chosen option, nothing is saved unless the learner saves it themselves, and no learner record is created. Group discussion works best on the provenance section: ask what would have to change for the call to move.

The starting choices are an example, or values carried from your previous page. Check all five answers before treating the guidance as relevant to you. Changing an answer returns the result to preview.

Insufficient evidence

The syllabus may fit SOC Analyst, but TechWaymark has insufficient evidence that buying CompTIA Security+ V7 will improve recruiter screening.

  • Use Security+ to organise foundational security study. Pair it with an investigation or hardening exercise you can explain, and check whether a target vacancy requires this exact credential.
  • This exam is in the associate level study-effort band, and your stated experience is earlier than the stage normally associated with that band. That is a sequencing observation, not an entry requirement: effort bands say how much ground the syllabus covers, not who is allowed to book.
  • Recruiter-filter value is not measured here. Check whether your target vacancies explicitly require or prefer this credential before paying.

This is a read on relevance, not a prediction. Nothing here is a guarantee of an interview, an offer or a salary.

We do not hold a comparable employer sample for this individual credential. Separate required from preferred credentials in your target vacancies.

  • Signal strength: Unmeasured
  • TechWaymark's market call: Workable

Use Security+ to organise foundational security study. Pair it with an investigation or hardening exercise you can explain, and check whether a target vacancy requires this exact credential. Hands-on depth is recorded as low.

  • Credential assessed against the vendor requirements; employer relevance is vacancy-specific.

This exam is in the associate level study-effort band, and your stated experience is earlier than the stage normally associated with that band. That is a sequencing observation, not an entry requirement: effort bands say how much ground the syllabus covers, not who is allowed to book. TechWaymark holds no recorded prerequisite for this exam, so nothing here stops you sitting it early if the route needs it.

  • Security foundations and security-adjacent work

Nothing here is a hard gate unless the vendor page says so. Recommended experience is the vendor's guidance about comfort with the syllabus, not permission to sit the exam.

  • Helpful but not required: Network+ knowledge (not required as a cert)
  • Vendor recommended experience, not a bar to booking: CompTIA recommends Network+ and about two years in a security or systems administration role.

Use Security+ to organise foundational security study. Pair it with an investigation or hardening exercise you can explain, and check whether a target vacancy requires this exact credential. Easiest cyber entry. Saturated by bootcamps, but real shifts thin the field fast.

  • Recorded ruling for SOC Analyst: useful
  • Basis: explicit TechWaymark ruling

A certification changes what a filter does with your name. It does not change what you can show a panel.

  • Guaranteed interviews, a salary increase or proof of production experience.
  • Treating a knowledge credential as proof of incident-handling experience.
  • No paid experience yet. The exam will not stand in for the first role.

Roughly 120 hours of part-time study for an exam at associate level, plus £274 in exam outlay. That is the same block of time as a small piece of work you could show instead, so the comparison is worth making honestly.

  • UK storefront exam voucher only, quoted in GBP. Confirm VAT and the final booking total; training, retake assurance and renewal fees are separate. Vendor price checked 2026-09-24.
  • Check the vendor renewal policy for current maintenance fees.

Only certifications TechWaymark has already ruled useful for this target appear here.

  • CompTIA CySA+ V4

Consider CySA+ when analyst study matches the next responsibilities you need to develop. Practise explaining an alert investigation from evidence to conclusion before adding another credential.

  • Splunk Core Certified User

Use the relevant Splunk credential to structure product learning for a team that uses Splunk. Build searches and explain data quality and interpretation; a product credential alone does not establish security-investigation experience.

  • Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate

Choose SC-200 when the team uses the Microsoft security tools covered by the current syllabus. Show how you investigate an alert and justify an action instead of assuming the exam code explains your operational depth.

  • Blue Team Level 1 (BTL1)

BTL1 is a possible structured route into blue-team practice. Use exercises to explain observations, investigation choices and conclusions, and check whether the target vacancy asks for a particular credential.

Most recent vendor review recorded: 2026-09.

  • CompTIA Security+ V7 (SY0-701). V7 (SY0-701) launched on 7 November 2023 and retires in English on 11 June 2027, with Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai following on 13 August 2027. CompTIA has not published a successor version on this page, so sit SY0-701 and check for a V8 announcement before booking late in the window.

  • Signal, hands-on depth, prerequisites and what the exam does not unlock.

  • Market-level call "Workable", confidence Medium. An editorial judgement about role fit and opportunity cost. It is not an estimate of interview success; verify the dated vendor facts before buying.

  • Recorded ruling for SOC Analyst.
